Free Game Friday: Arma 2

Our friendly neighbourhood war fanatic Jay has already brought this game to our attention before, but that was on a Wednesday and as such does not count and I am free to extol the virtues of it once again.

Arma 2: Free is a stripped down free to play version of Bohemia Interactive’s war simulator. Minus the campaign and HD textures but featuring full multi-player integration with the retail game and a mission editor to craft single-player or multi-player missions to wage war in.

Arma 2 has seen a huge surge in popularity in recent weeks thanks to zombie survival mod Day Z. While Arma 2: Free does not support mods it does come with some bonus value as it can be utilised in conjunction with standalone expansion Operation Arrowhead to run the increasingly popular mod.

Bohemia Interactive’s feature light free-to-play version still packs a whole lot of Arma 2 in with the full battlefield simulation intact: ballistics, material penetration and AI are just as they are in the full version and there are over 300 weapons, units and vehicles to play with. It’s a very generous package, with no microtransactions or hidden payments. It’s all just there for you to enjoy for absolutely free. You can find out where to download and activate Arma 2: Free by clicking here.
