It’s official! ArenaNet have announced that their MMO Guild Wars 2 is scheduled for release Tuesday, August 28th. That’s close.

After multiple beta weekends, both open and closed, along with several stress tests in between, hopefully Guild Wars 2 will be in good shape upon launch.

Here’s what Mike O’Brien of ArenaNet had to say in his announcement on the developer blog.

Earlier this year I told you that 2012 would be the Year of the Dragon, and that the next few betas would help us nail down our actual launch date. Well, after the results of our latest stress test, I’m happy to announce that we’re ready to nail down that date.

My fingers are crossed that what Mike said loosely translates into something like this, “our game is pretty much perfect.” If it isn’t, then there won’t be any excuses, and it’ll be on them that they decided to release the game earlier than they should have done.
